In compliance with recent restrictions placed on New York State businesses and non-profits, it has been decided that Cheney Library will extend its closure through May 15, 2020. On May 15, we will reevaluate our situation. We will continue to provide updates via email and on our website, www.cheneylibrary.org.
Please remember:
- Our WiFi will remain active and will be accessible 24/7 from our parking area.
- We ask that you refrain from returning or donating books while the library is closed. We are a fine-free library, and will waive all late fees that occur as a result of our closure.
- Please do not call the library to renew books. The phones will not be monitored for those purposes at this time.
All of us at Cheney Library miss our patrons dearly and look very forward to seeing you again. During this period of temporary closure, library staff are completing webinars and at-home projects to help deliver even better library service when we reopen. Thank you once again for your patience, support and understanding. If you have any questions or concerns, please email Library Director Sara Yetto at [email protected].
During this unprecedented time, there are many web-based resources available for patrons. While the library is closed, patrons are encouraged to utilize Cheney Library’s broad range of online resources.
As of now, Hoopla is accessible to all Cheney Library cardholders.
Hoopla is a digital media service that allows you to borrow eBooks, audiobooks, music, movies, and more. It is free to sign up. All you need is your email and library card number. Patrons are allowed to check out 5 items per month, and the best part is that requests are satisfied immediately–you never have to wait for your item! Access Hoopla here.
In addition to resources offered through Hoopla, Cheney Library also offers eBooks, audiobooks, and more through OverDrive. Between OverDrive and Flipster, the library also has over 50 digital magazines ready for you to download.
For those of you missing your in-person book club, Upper Hudson Library System runs a virtual book club on Facebook which is open to all member library patrons. Book titles change each month and discussion is held virtually. All you need to participate is a Facebook account. Join the club here.
Good news for anyone who’s had to stop their genealogical research since the library closed! You can now log in with your library card barcode and use Ancestry for Libraries at home. Access the service here.
Finally, Cheney Library would like to remind you to complete the 2020 Census. Submitting your responses is easier now than ever before. Complete the Census online here. For answers to questions commonly asked by census-takers, visit the United States Census Bureau’s Frequently Asked Questions page.
